The Lazer Z1 MIPS is the lighter more comfortable, better ventilated helmet option, which now boasts the protective technology of the Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS). And with the optional aeroshell it's also very aerodynamic.

Building on a long tradition of innovation, Lazer decided to combine all elements of a high performance helmet and push each feature as far as possible. It's the lightest helmet ever made by Lazer, without sacrificing style, safety or comfort.Styling wise it has the looks of a contemporary high performance road helmet with an integrated wing on the top of the helmet.

Features

Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) - A revolutionary technology, providing protection with respect to angled impacts.

MIPS is a patented protection system and comes from years of studying the human brain. The brain is surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid that protects it by allowing it to slide when exposed to an angled impact. Mimicking the cerebrospinal fluid, MIPS creates a sliding layer between the helmet and the head.  This reduces the rotational force otherwise transmitted to the brain. The combination of the brain’s own protection and MIPS provides better protection from angled impacts. MIPS can be utilized in any helmet and does not interfere or take away from any other technical features, safety aspects, comfort or design.

MIPS was developed by some of the world’s leading researchers in biomechanics and neuroscience at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.  The results is helmets offering enhanced safety and protection from rotational forces to the brain

Conventional helmet testing is done by dropping them vertically onto a flat surface. MIPS is designed for reality, reflecting how most accidents occur, with angled impacts to the head. By using the low friction layer, MIPS can absorb more of the energy from an angled blow to the head.

Lazer and MIPS have been partners since 2013 and colaborated on the first ever inmolded helmet that featured the technology, the Lazer P'Nut MIPS helmet. Since then the MIPS system has been available throughout the Lazer range.

Look for the yellow MIPS logo on the helmets to ensure that you are wearing a helmet with MIPS technology!

Advanced Rollsys System (ARS) - The fit of a helmet is important and adjusting this fit to your individual need is of equal importance for the comfort level of a  helmet. To achieve a good fit Lazer has installed the ARS or Advanced Rollsys System in the helmet. The ARS is an upgraded version of the award winning Rollsys® System.  Compared to the standard fit systems the Advanced Rollsys system is a fully integrated mechanism which surrounds the head completely. By turning a smooth thumb wheel, situated on top of the helmet the system permits an accurate and progressive peripheral sizing adjustment. The fit of the helmet will symmetrically be tightened without any pressure points on the head.

The Advanced Rollsys system offers an innovative one hand use and is easy to handle even during riding. By taking away the retention system at the back the Advanced Rollsys system is also the perfect solution for people with a ponytail.

Magneto - Magneto is an award winning and revolutionary sunglass/helmet interface that offers the user improved comfort and superior fit. Recognizing that traditional sunglass temples cause trouble for some wearers both in terms of fit, contact with the helmet’s retention system and added pressure to the side of the head at the contact points, Lazer has eliminated these temple pieces and replaced them with a clever magnetic attachment system. The helmet strap features two clips with a small piece of rubber-coated metal at the center, this allows for an attachment with magnets that are imbedded in two short tabs that connect to the sunglass lens.

The result is a secure fit of the lens on the face but with the ability for adjustment both up and down and forewords and backwards. With Magneto in use there is no possibility for interference of the Rollsys® retention system and the side of the head is left unobstructed to keep cool. The absence of normal sunglass temples also results in very little pressure on the user’s head which eliminates headaches and fatigue during a long day in the saddle. Magneto is available as both an interchangeable piece with three different lens options or as a photochromatic piece with lenses that adapt automatically to varying light conditions. For off the bike use there are standard sunglass temples included, allowing you to take Magneto with you wherever you go.

Rigidity Brace System (RBS) - The Rigidity Brace system is a reinforcement for a superior helmet resistance against multi impacts. This system is comparable with a roll cage in a racecar. In case of a crash this will keep the cracked EPS pieces together so the helmet still offers some form of protection. This system does not guarantee the effectiveness of a helmet after a crash, every helmet needs to be inspected carefully after a crash and in case of dents or cracks it should be replaced.
