This week I am reviewing the Topeak Smartguage D2 Tyre pressure gauge, because one of the most important things to do before a ride is to ensure your tyre pressures are correct.
The unit itself is manufactured from plastic, making it rather lightweight at 65g. The dimensions are 10.2 x 4.5 x 3.5cm, making relatively compact. It has a rotating head that makes the digital screen easier to read, with an air release button. The unit has a digital display that reads up to 250psi or 17 Bar. It can also adapt to Presta or Schrader valves easily. The power comes from a CR2032 button battery, which seems to be standard these days.
I have personally been using this unit for three years. It doesn't take up too much space and appears to be relatively accurate. I have used it on my bike and my car but believe it can also be used on shocks and forks. It is small and sturdy with the controls being simple and straightforward to use. There is an on/off button, a measuring unit change button, a tune button, a Presta/Schrader slide changer and an air release button. Most of these are self explanatory, but the tune button enables fine pressure adjustments to be read whilst decreasing the pressure with the air release button. Over the time I have used it I've only had one issue where a little bit of dirt stopped the slider that changes from Presta to Schrader. I don't believe this is any fault of the unit, and after a clean it worked fine again. Battery life is great as I haven't needed to replace one yet.
